Western Sydney International: a traveller's guide
Sydney's second airport opens on 25 October 2026. Here is who flies there and how it differs from the old one.
Where it is
Badgerys Creek, about 45 km west of Sydney's centre. A new metro line connects the terminal with St Marys on the suburban rail network; by road, the M12 motorway links to the M7. Kingsford Smith (SYD) stays the main international gateway for now.
Airlines at launch
| Airline | Routes | From |
|---|---|---|
| Jetstar | Melbourne (up to 14 weekly), Gold Coast (4), Brisbane (3) | 25 Oct 2026 |
| Air New Zealand | Auckland | 26 Oct 2026 |
| Singapore Airlines | Singapore, daily | 23 Nov 2026 |
| Qantas (QantasLink E190) | Brisbane (4 weekly), Melbourne (4 weekly) | 28 Mar 2027 |
Why it matters
- No curfew: Kingsford Smith closes to most flights between 11pm and 6am, WSI runs 24 hours, so expect more late-night and early-morning departures.
- Freight started in July 2026, passenger flights in October.
- Low-cost carriers get a cheaper base, which usually means lower fares on overlapping routes.
Airport code is WSI. Double-check which Sydney airport your ticket uses; the two are more than an hour apart by road.
