Rail
Europe's new sleeper trains in 2026
Overnight rail keeps growing. These routes launched this year, and two more are planned.
Launched in 2026
- European Sleeper, Paris to Berlin: three times a week from 26 March 2026.
- Basel to Copenhagen and Malmo: overnight service from 16 April 2026, linking Switzerland with Denmark and southern Sweden.
- Brussels and Amsterdam to Milan: three times a week from 18 June 2026, via Germany and Switzerland.
- Prague to Copenhagen (daytime): full service from 14 June 2026 with stops in Dresden, Berlin and Hamburg.
Planned
European Sleeper has announced Brussels to Barcelona and Brussels to Milan extensions. One is expected to start at the end of 2026 and the other in 2027; the operator has not said which goes first.
Booking tips
- Sleeper fares open two to six months ahead and the cheapest couchettes sell out first.
- Private compartments usually cost about the same as a budget flight plus a hotel night.
- Check the arrival time: some trains reach the destination before 7am, so plan luggage storage.
